Marriage Services

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Ar-Rum, 30:21)

Nikah is an act of worship; an agreement and contract between the husband and wife in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah.

Islam teaches us that marriage is an important part of our life and that a healthy marriage leads to a healthy community. At the Masjid, we perform the Islamic ceremony (Nikah) in accordance with the Islamic teachings and can advise you on everything you need to know.

When the decision for marriage is made, we arrange to perform the nikah. The process is outlined below:

  • A marriage license from the province is required. The original of which is needed for performing the nikah.
  • Please contact the Imam directly as he will arrange for the nikah.
  • We require the presence of two Muslim witnesses for the groom and a guardian (wali) for the bride.
  • The ideal guardian for the bride is the father of the bride. In the absence of a father for the bride, the person performing the nikah will guide the marrying couple to arrange possible alternatives depending on their options. If the options meet the Islamic requirements, the nikah will be performed.
  • The groom with consultation and approval of the bride offers in writing the mahr or sadaq to the bride to be recorded on the nikah certificate.
  • The service is provided free of charge by the Masjid to the community. If individuals wish to they may give Hadiya to the Imam.
  • The nikah details are recorded in a prescribed form. It is signed by the bride, the groom, the guardian, and the witnesses. A copy of that certificate is provided to the bride and groom.
